Flamenco on Vancouver Island – UBC Study

Dear Flamenco de la Isla Society Members and Flamenco Friends,

You are invited to be part of this research study as a member of the flamenco community on Vancouver Island. We’re currently inviting you to participate in the Phase 1 of this study, which is an online survey administered by UBC Okanagan. We would like to know how you participate in flamenco on Vancouver Island, how you might like to participate in the future, and what resources you may wish to access. You can opt in to be contacted about future phases at the end of this survey.

This study will contribute perspectives on the Vancouver Island flamenco community back to community members through community reports and documentary film.

If you have not already filled out the survey, there is still time. Survey deadline is January 15th.

Whether you are younger or more seasoned, a flamenco enthusiast or professional, or new to flamenco, we want to hear from you. We value everyone’s input!

This research study is conducted by Dr. Emily Christina Murphy, a researcher at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan, and Upma Rai, Board Member of the Flamenco de la Isla Society. This study is an online survey only.

This study will help the researchers learn about the unique character of flamenco dance and music on Vancouver Island. It will also help local arts organizations like the FDLI Society plan future offerings and community events. It includes questions about how you participate in flamenco on Vancouver Island, how you might like to participate in the future, and what resources you want to access. Any level of flamenco aficionado or artist can participate.

The Flamenco de la Isla Society is sponsoring this project, which means that we are assisting with communications and recruitment. If you have questions before you do the survey, a member of the FDLI Society Executive can help. We will not communicate our conversation to the researchers or any other members of the Board. You are free to ask questions without committing to the survey.

The survey will take about 30 minutes of your time. If you would like to give longer, optional written answers, it may take longer. You can opt in to be contacted about future phases at the end of this survey, which might include in-person discussions or interviews.

If you have any questions about the study, please email fdli-hello@flamencodelaisla.org.

Please feel free to forward this study to other flamenco enthusiasts on Vancouver Island.

Kind regards,

Board Members,
Flamenco de la Isla Society
