INTERNATIONAL FLAMENCO DAY – CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY
Sunday, November 16 (Victoria)
The Flamenco de la Isla Society invites you to an evening of flamenco music, dance, fashion, and silent auction!
This evening is all about celebrating International Flamenco Day while we raise funds for local flamenco guitarist, Gareth Owen.
Gareth is the backbone of many of Flamenco de la Isla Society’s productions, and he is a popular guitarist for flamenco e vents in both Victoria and Vancouver. Gareth is a masterful guitarist who has dedicated his life to this dynamic and complex art form. He has proven his commitment to our flamenco communities, and now is our chance to support him!
Gareth has recently won a BC Arts Project Grant for phase 1 of his research, creation, and exploration of flamenco “toque” (guitar). Gareth plans to travel to Andalucia, Spain, where he will meet with other professional flamenco artists, gain connections to support his work, and develop even more creative energy that will surely benefit our whole community.
We invite you to come and support Gareth, along with many other local talented artists, as they showcase the passion of flamenco. Please come and enjoy live music, dance, and a colourful fashion show (with a sneak peek of costumes to be sold at an upcoming Flamenco Fashion Pop-up), and check out many other silent auction items including a locally made flamenco guitar ~ all in celebration of community.
Date: Sunday, November 16, 2025
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Admission: $10
Venue: The Coda, 751 View St. (above Hermann’s Jazz Club)

Pacific Baroque Festival (Spanish Connections) – February 25-March 1, 2026 (Victoria)
The 2026 Pacific Baroque Festival invites our audience to delight in the music of baroque Spain. The Iberian Peninsula was heavily influenced by the musical trends of 17th-century Italy and France, whilst drawing on its own folk influences to create a unique musical environment. Important in this was the inclusion of the Spanish guitar, with its idiomatic strumming and plucking. These sounds were emulated in writing for keyboard and string instruments, while prominent Spanish composers who travelled to Italy brought back the baroque forms and styles current there. At the same time, Italian musicians such as Domenico Scarlatti and Luigi Boccherini were drawn to the rich musical life and royal riches of 17th and 18th century Spain and the influence of Spanish baroque music extended to the colonies in America.
This year’s Festival brings some of the best music of this special era to Victoria, while providing a sonorous variety with concerts highlighting the organ, guitar, voice, and piano. Appreciate the depth and breadth of the music of baroque Spain with a Festival Pass. If not, there is sure to be a single concert that you’ll love!
